Its always about the journey.

So many of us these days seem to be driven by instant gratification. Constantly stimulated and multi tasking has turned us into a society of “busy bee’s”, buzzing back and forth. But you can’t slow the passage of time and going faster doesn’t make the rich experiences of life any sweeter. It is time to slow down.Breathe. Look around and smell not just the roses but the reality around us too. Even urban environments have a beauty to them. A friend and I were recently surfing a storm in Maine and in between sets looked up to the sky and saw 4 planes high in the sky with crazy plumes behind them. Now we could have looked at that and got disgusted by it but instead we saw the beauty of our reality and the great accomplishments that mankind has achieved  such as building such machines.

In the surf world there seems to also be that push for instant gratification. Many folks want to get on a plane then onto a boat or to a surf camp where “everything is taken care of”. Personally, I’d rather go and earn it, go out on a trek and see what might be around the next bend, far away from from the “bro brah” scene.

The video below embodies this ideal perfectly in my opinion and is filmed quite beautifully as well and is really less of a surfing movie as it is a journey movie about people, places and natural beauty.
